Bettle One — 2026 World Cup
Terms of Participation
Section 1 Organiser and character of the competition
(1) The organiser of the prediction game “Bettle One – WM 2026” (hereinafter “the Competition”) is Kersten Lorenz (sole trader), Lübecker Str. 34, 44135 Dortmund (hereinafter “Organiser”). The Competition takes place in the club “Bettle One” operated by the Organiser on the bettl.es platform.
(2) The Competition is a free online prediction game for the 2026 World Cup and is conducted by the Organiser by way of a public promise of reward within the meaning of Section 657 of the German Civil Code (BGB).
(3) The Competition is not gambling within the meaning of Section 3(1) of the German Interstate Treaty on Gambling 2021 (GlüStV). Participation is free of charge. No stake of monetary value is demanded or expected from the participants. The Bettle Coins used within the competition are a purely virtual in-game currency provided by the Organiser without monetary value (see also Section 9 of the Terms).
Section 2 Conditions of participation
(1) Eligible to participate are exclusively natural persons who
- have reached the age of 18 at the time of registration,
- have their habitual residence in the Federal Republic of Germany,
- have registered on the platform bettl.es, accepting the General Terms and Conditions.
(2) Employees of the Organiser, of its affiliated companies and their respective relatives within the meaning of Section 15 of the German Fiscal Code (AO) are excluded from participation.
(3) Multiple participations by a natural person are not permitted. Only one account per participant is permitted.
(4) Participation is limited to a maximum of 1,000 places. Places are allocated in order of registration (“first come, first served”). Once the maximum number of participants has been reached, registration is no longer possible.
(5) The information on age (date of birth) and name must be truthful and complete. Incorrect information — in particular on date of birth, majority age or identity — may lead to disqualification pursuant to Section 8. Prizes already awarded are reclaimed in this case. The Organiser reserves the right to demand an official photo ID as proof of identity and age before paying out a cash prize.
Section 3 Registration and participation period
(1) Registration takes place by registering on the platform and actively entering the Competition. By entering, the participant declares acceptance of these terms of participation.
(2) Registration is possible from 4 June 2026 until at the latest the kick-off of the semi-final match of the 2026 World Cup, subject to the maximum number of participants under Section 2(4).
(3) Registration after the kick-off of the first World Cup match remains permissible. In this case, for each match already evaluated before registration, Bettle Coins in the amount of the minimum stake are retroactively deducted from the virtual starting balance (“catch-up calculation”). If the starting balance falls below the minimum stake as a result of the catch-up calculation, the participant is immediately eliminated again upon registration (Section 4(5)).
(4) The competition extends to all matches of the 2026 World Cup (expected 11 June 2026 to 19 July 2026, 48 teams, 104 matches). The Organiser reserves the right to adapt the schedule to official changes by the tournament organiser.
Section 4 Course of play
(1) Each participant receives the same virtual starting balance in Bettle Coins upon registration.
(2) For each match of the 2026 World Cup, the participant can place a tip up to the kick-off of the respective match and stake a freely selectable amount of their Bettle Coins between a minimum and maximum stake. The exact values for minimum and maximum stake are announced publicly before the start of the competition and are unchangeable throughout the entire competition.
(3) The tips are evaluated on the basis of the odds of real, licensed bookmakers, which are adopted unchanged into the platform for each match. If the participant wins a tip, the stake multiplied by the odds shown by the respective bookmaker at the time of match evaluation is credited to them in Bettle Coins. These odds may deviate from the odds displayed when the tip was placed. If the participant loses the tip, the stake is forfeited.
(4) Participants who do not place a tip on a match pay a flat penalty in the amount of the minimum stake in Bettle Coins.
(5) If a participant’s Bettle Coins balance falls below the minimum stake, they are eliminated from the competition. Renewed participation is not possible. Eliminated participants remain in the ranking but no longer take part in any further evaluations.
Section 5 Determination of winners
(1) Decisive for the placement is exclusively the status of a participant’s Bettle Coins after the evaluation of the final match.
(2) In the event of a tie between several participants, a draw made by the Organiser decides. The draw takes place with documentation in a comprehensible form (e.g. video-based record). Notarial supervision is not guaranteed.
(3) The determination of winners is essentially based on the participants’ skill in selecting and allocating their tips. Elements of chance (match outcomes) affect all participants equally and recede behind the skill component.
Section 6 Prizes
(1) The Organiser offers the following prizes for the Competition:
- 1st place: EUR 500.00 (by bank transfer)
- 2nd place: EUR 250.00 (by bank transfer)
- 3rd place: EUR 100.00 (by bank transfer)
- 4th to 10th place: prizes in kind (e.g. jerseys, streaming subscriptions, fan merchandise).
(2) The cash prizes under paragraph 1 are financed entirely by the Organiser from its own funds; prizes in kind may additionally be contributed by sponsors or other third parties. In no case are the prizes financed from stakes of the participants; the participants make no stake whatsoever.
(3) There is no claim to a specific particular prize in kind; the Organiser will select prizes in kind at its reasonable discretion and may offer equivalent alternatives.
(4) An exchange of the prizes for other prizes in kind or a payout of the equivalent value is only provided for in relation to the cash prizes under Section 6(1) sentence 1. Prizes in kind cannot be paid out in money or exchanged for other prizes in kind.
(5) Beyond the prizes named in paragraph 1, the Organiser may offer further prizes in kind and special prizes (for instance prizes provided by sponsors or prizes for particular achievements). Such additional prizes are made exclusively in favour of the participants and leave the cash prizes promised under paragraph 1 unaffected. The Organiser announces the type, scope, allocation and conditions of additional prizes, once they are determined, on the competition page at bettl.es/bettle-one, at the latest before the end of the Competition; the version published there at the relevant time is authoritative. There is a claim to additional prizes only insofar as they are specifically offered there.
Section 7 Notification and payout
(1) The winners are notified by the Organiser without undue delay after the end of the competition by email to the address stored in the account.
(2) For the handover of cash prizes or prizes in kind, the Organiser may demand the disclosure of further data (in particular bank details, delivery address, and where applicable proof of identity) from the winner. The processing of this data takes place exclusively to process the prize and is explained in the privacy policy.
(3) If a winner, despite notification, does not respond to the Organiser within 30 days of receipt of the notification and transmit the required data, the claim to the prize lapses without replacement. The Organiser is entitled to pass the prize on to the next-placed participant.
(4) Payouts are made exclusively after the data has been transmitted to bank accounts in the SEPA zone. Prizes in kind are dispatched exclusively to delivery addresses in the Federal Republic of Germany.
(5) The tax treatment of the prize on the participant’s side (in particular the question of any income tax liability under Section 22 of the German Income Tax Act (EStG)) is the participant’s own responsibility. The Organiser recommends individual tax advice.
Section 8 Exclusion of participants
(1) The Organiser is entitled to exclude participants from the competition without prior notice if there is good cause. Good cause includes in particular:
- breach of these terms of participation or the Terms of the Organiser,
- untrue information during registration, in particular on the person, age or place of residence,
- multiple participation,
- attempts at manipulation regarding the platform, the prediction mechanism or the determination of winners,
- use of automated scripts (“bots”),
- abusive behaviour towards other participants,
- other behaviour that significantly impairs the proper running of the competition.
(2) Prizes already awarded can be reclaimed in the cases of paragraph 1.
Section 9 Early termination, cancellation and changes
(1) The Organiser reserves the right to interrupt, abort or end the competition if good cause significantly impairs its proper conduct. Good cause includes in particular
- significant technical problems (in particular infection by malware, attempts at manipulation or serious errors in hardware or software),
- legal requirements, in particular official orders that preclude the continuation of the competition,
- force majeure.
(2) Should the 2026 World Cup not take place properly in whole or in part or should an essential part of the matches be cancelled, the Organiser is entitled to adapt, shorten or end the competition accordingly. An adaptation of the schedule to official decisions by the tournament organiser does not count as termination.
(3) Participants cannot derive any claims against the Organiser from an early termination or adaptation of the competition, unless mandatory statutory provisions preclude this.
(4) The competition is cancelled entirely if, by the kick-off of the final match of the 2026 World Cup, fewer than 300 participants in total are registered for the Competition (“minimum number of participants”). In the event of cancellation, no prizes are distributed. The cancellation is communicated to the participants without undue delay by email. Participants cannot derive any claims against the Organiser beyond this notification from a cancellation, unless mandatory statutory provisions preclude this.
(5) The Organiser expressly points out that technical disruptions, system failures or data losses can occur at any time during the term of the competition. All game data belonging to the competition — in particular tips placed, Bettle Coins balances and ranking statuses — can be affected by this in whole or in part without prior notice. In such a case, the Organiser is entitled at its reasonable discretion to
- restore the last available secured game status and continue the competition on this basis,
- leave individual game rounds without evaluation, insofar as tip or result data has been irretrievably lost, or
- interrupt, abort or end the competition in accordance with paragraph 1.
(6) Participants have no claim to the restoration of lost tips, scores or Bettle Coins balances or to financial or virtual compensation. Paragraph 3 applies accordingly; liability under Section 10 remains unaffected.
Section 9a Amendment of these terms of participation during the runtime
(1) The Organiser is entitled to issue these terms of participation in a new, versioned edition during the runtime of the competition as well, provided there is an objective reason for doing so (in particular adaptation to a changed legal situation or official requirements, correction of obvious inaccuracies, and clarification or closing of gaps in the provisions). Amendments that materially shift the balance of performance and consideration to the detriment of the participants are excluded.
(2) A new edition is communicated to the participants in text form or via the Platform and made available at a permanently retrievable, version-bound internet address.
(3) A new edition becomes effective in relation to a participant only once that participant expressly consents to it. Consent is given by active confirmation on the Platform. Until confirmation, the participant cannot take any further participation-relevant action, in particular cannot place any new tips.
(4) The amendment has no retroactive effect. Tips already placed, the Bettle Coins balance reached up to that point and participation in the competition remain unaffected and valid.
(5) If, as a result of a missing confirmation, a participant does not place a tip on a match, Section 4(4) applies accordingly.
Section 10 Liability
(1) The Organiser is liable without limitation for damages arising from injury to life, body or health as well as for damages arising from intentional or grossly negligent breach of duty.
(2) For the slightly negligent breach of essential contractual obligations, the Organiser is liable limited in amount to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract.
(3) Otherwise, the Organiser’s liability is excluded.
(4) In particular, the Organiser is not liable for the availability of the platform during the competition, insofar as the failure is based on a circumstance for which the Organiser is not responsible (in particular failures of the supplying bookmakers or result data services).
Section 11 Data protection
(1) Personal data of the participants is collected and processed exclusively for the purpose of conducting the competition (including registration, determination of winners, notification and handover of prizes).
(2) Processing takes place on the basis of the participant’s consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) as well as to perform the contract concluded with the participant (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
(3) Further information on the Organiser’s handling of personal data can be found in the privacy policy.
Section 12 Publication of winners
(1) The first names and public player names of the main winners (1st–3rd place) may be published after the end of the competition on the Organiser’s own platform pages and in its social media channels.
(2) Any publication beyond this (in particular of the full name or image material) only takes place with the separate consent of the respective person.
Section 13 Legal recourse and applicable law
(1) German law applies, to the exclusion of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
(2) Legal recourse is excluded insofar as this is legally permissible.
(3) Should individual provisions of these terms of participation be invalid or unenforceable, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected.
